Ugh, this is one of those terrible journals where I explain why pretty much nothing is on schedule any more. And I mean nothing. It is a combo of good things and meh things and a little bit of not so good things. That is how I will break it up.
Good:
One of the professors from undergraduate that I've kept up with emailed me mid April about a temp job which I started the last week of April. This has been the biggest drain on my time as I'm allowed to work as much as 35 hours a week and because the pay is awesome I'm trying to get as close to that as possible but pretty much hitting 25-30 hours consistantly. I love my job, I'm researching Norse myth and will start Celtic Myth in June and if the schedule is held then doing Arthurian Myth in July. I'm working hard to do well since it has been hinted they will keep me on if they like my work.
Meh:
Because of a misunderstanding I'm moving out a week earlier than planned so my soon to be roommate is taking less of a loss on rent. She thought I was moving in May 1st not June 1st so I'm compromising with May 20th (happy 23rd b-day me). Leaving a week early meant a week less to complete all obligations including the new 25-30 hour a week hole in my schedule. Were I leaving a week later this journal would not exist.
Jane Eyre demanded to be read which got me to read Sense and Sensibility and that is the topic of the Jane Austen Essay contest this year, if I win I get to go to the annual JASNA meeting for free and get my paper published (which is the important bit). The topic is SUCKTASTIC though so it is taking longer than I would like.
Actually had a job interview for a different, perm job. I was worthless the whole day leading up to it because it has taken two years to get one (temp job was just a facebook note asking if I wanted to do it or not). They seemed to like me but I'd be moving back to Central Texas and I'd possibly miss SDCC. Sad but a professional job is a professional job and there is no way I can turn it down (barring a better offer). And then I'd be set up for the 2013 MotoGP race in Austin.
Not so Good:
Inspiration for In a Time of Zombies dried up. At the end of Chapter 5. Chapter 5 seems to always be my curse since I've been able to work on other chapters but it is no longer a May 15th release. Since I'm completely blowing my goal date I figure I might as well add another month and give my proof reader/critique peeps a more lax review schedule instead of 2 chapters a week. Looking for a Brit picker though, I've already had one inconsistancy pointed out (no blue box mac and cheese in Britain, who knew) and I'd like to make sure it is spic and span. The only thing I can offer is that you'll be getting a free read of the book since brit picking happens after grammar/proof reader has gotten their hands on it. And I'll throw in a copy of the finished product too.
School. So original but cataloging just about ate my soul. I'm glad I took the course as I learned a lot but it has been years since I've honestly been challenged by academic work. It is a rare thing for me. Then again MARC is pretty much a language and I've never been good at languages. Still mad we're probably dropping AACR2 in a few years for RDA. AACR2 sucks but RDA means way too much typing.
The current plush project of Skyfire is fighting me. I messed up the pattern ever so slightly so the proportion of the arms was off and it just bugged me too much to write off. I'm the poster girl for don't pattern when you're really tired. Super happy with the flannel though and he's looking good now that I've repatterned the arms.
Packing. Gah. I always think it will take two days but it never does since I'm trying to shoe horn my whole life into a compact car.
Summ:
So yeah, basically novel release has been pushed back until mid-July, Remnant is once again shelved because things are only getting crazier, plush commissions are still being worked on but I've got too many things on my plate so everything is slow going. I'm going to be just about completely offline from everything non-school until after Capstone finishes (June 20th). I'm moving next week, making Drag Strip the week after that, Botcon is the following week and then I roll into the start of my last semester and Capstone. After that I should have a few weeks to catch up then go radio silence again for SDCC, last few weeks of classes and graduation.
If you need me then note me on facebook since it'll shoot me an email which will go straight to my phone. If you don't know me irl (or some variant of that) then just look up Clara Kitridge.
I'll be happy to see you guys August 29th.
